Fresh Low Pressure to Bring More Rains Over AP

Visakhapatnam: A fresh low pressure is likely to form over northwest and west central Bay of Bengal on August 18, triggering heavy rains in parts of Andhra Pradesh for the next five days, an IMD Amaravati report has said.
It pointed out that the existing low pressure over south Odisha and north Andhra has moved to south Chhattisgarh and its neighbourhood. It is expected to move west-northwest wards, gradually weakening and reaching Gujarat around August 18.
The fresh low pressure, however, is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with thunderstorms and lightning, in several districts of Andhra on August 18 and August 19.
Accordingly, the IMD has issued Yellow and Orange alerts for many districts in Andhra Pradesh over the next five days.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the deep sea along and off the north Andhra coast. A cautionary signal number 3 has been hoisted over Kakinada, Visakhapatnam, Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam ports.
Squally winds with speeds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely along and off the coastal Andhra Pradesh.
During the last 24 hours, Kukunoor (Eluru district) received the highest rainfall of 7 cm, followed by Kurupam (Manyam) 6 cm. Chodavaram (Anakapalli), Rajahmundry, Dowleswaram, Polavaram and Vizianagaram received 5 cm of rainfall each.
Following weeks of dry spell and registering the highest deficit rainfall of around 30 per cent, Visakhapatnam experienced moderate rainfall on Saturday. They brought the much needed relief from the hot and sultry weather conditions.
