Four dead, 13 injured in road accident near Chittoor

Tirupati: Six persons died, and 13 others sustained injuries in a road accident near Gangasagaram on the Chittoor-Vellore road in the early hours of Friday. The victims are believed to be residents of Tamil Nadu.


Most of the victims were devotees of Lord Venkateswara from Tamil Nadu who had visited Tirumala for Vaikunta Dwara Darshan. The accident occurred when a private bus belonging to Sri Ranganathan Travels, carrying devotees from Tirupati to Madurai, collided with a tipper truck. The bus overturned, skidded for about 20 feet, and crashed into an electric pole at a road construction site.

Four passengers died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital. The deceased have been identified as Jeeva, 31, from Irrachakulam, Chandu, 33, from Saptagiri Nagar, Tirupati, Sridhar Veerayya, 21, from Tirupati NGO Colony, and Prasad, 32, from Madurai. Two others are yet to be identified.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for immediate treatment.

Chittoor collector Sumit Kumar visited the accident site and oversaw rescue operations. District in-charge minister Ramprasad Reddy expressed condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to ensure advanced medical care for the injured.
