Nellore: After a wait of nearly three decades, the long-pending dream of people for a bridge across Pottepalem Kaluju Spillway of Nellore Tank is expected to materialise in about 18 months, with its foundation laid on Monday in the presence of leaders cutting across party lines, marking a rare moment of political unity.
Speaking on the occasion, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy said the bridge will significantly ease transportation problems faced by lakhs of people and eliminate frequent road accidents in the region.
Calling the bridge a 25–30 years’ old aspiration, the MP said the project has become possible due to the determination of Nellore Rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy. Despite financial challenges faced by the state, ₹9 crore have been ensured for the bridge, expected to be completed within eight months.
Addressing the gathering, Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy said the project will benefit people of not only Nellore Rural villages but also Kovur constituency areas, such as Jonnawada, Minagallu, and Penuballi. It will be of great help for devotees traveling to the Jonnawada Temple.
Speaking on the occasion, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy said the bridge fulfils the election promises made by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and minister Nara Lokesh. He declared that elections or no elections, he would remain among the people, without compromising on the development of Nellore Rural and welfare of party workers who have stood by him.
MLA Sridhar Reddy disclosed that the foundation stone for another bridge across the Mulumudi Kaluva would be laid by the end of February and completed within three months.
MLC and TD district president Beeda Ravichandra described Sridhar Reddy as the only youth leader in the district who became an MLA after 30 years of active public life.
