Former IAS Officer Flags Job Crisis, Bats For Special Status, Full Amaravati Development
Recalling his tenure in Guntur and Vijayawada between 2000 and 2004, Prakash said on Thursday that he was deeply impressed by the region’s unique living ecosystem: Reports
VIJAYAWADA: Former IAS officer Praveen Prakash has sounded a strong warning over the acute shortage of high-paying private sector jobs in the Guntur–Vijayawada region, asserting that only the full-fledged development of Amaravati as the capital city, backed by Special Category Status (SCS) from the Centre, can address the crisis.
Recalling his tenure in Guntur and Vijayawada between 2000 and 2004, Prakash said on Thursday that he was deeply impressed by the region’s unique living ecosystem. This attachment, he said, prompted him to seek a transfer to Andhra Pradesh after the 2014 bifurcation, despite being initially allotted to Telangana.
However, his later experience in the state, he alleged, turned bitter.
Prakash claimed that he was left without a posting last year as a form of punishment, causing humiliation and forcing him to opt for voluntary retirement. After retirement, he searched for a private sector job in Vijayawada offering compensation comparable to his government salary to meet family responsibilities. Despite a three-month effort, he found no suitable opportunity and eventually moved to Delhi, where he secured a comparable position.
Praveen Prakash said political blame games — targeting the YSRC, BJP or Congress — were futile. The real issue, he argued, was the absence of a strong economic engine. High-paying jobs would emerge only if Amaravati is developed as a complete capital, with its nine planned sub-cities attracting major corporate investments.
Given the estimated ₹45 lakh crore requirement for a greenfield capital, Praveen Prakash said Central support through Special Category Status was indispensable, urging voters to back the demand in the forthcoming municipal elections to secure jobs for future generations.
