Vijayawada: Hundreds of Budameru flood victims staged a protest at the Vijayawada collectorate, demanding immediate government action on flood prevention measures.

The United Forum, led by convener CH. Baburao, submitted petitions with hundreds of signatures demanding Rs 10,000 crore funding for permanent flood control infrastructure.

Protesters criticised the coalition government's focus on the Rs 80,000 crore Banakacherla project while neglecting flood affecting lakhs of residents. Since 1964, expert committees have recommended flood control measures, but successive governments have failed to implement them, he said.

Collector G. Lakshmisha has assured protesters that the government would be informed of the issue’s urgency.

Civil society leaders emphasised that flood control is the government’s responsibility, not an act of mercy.
