Nellore: A family narrowly escaped unhurt after a fire broke out late on Wednesday night and completely gutted a house at Ramalingapuram, a fishermen’s village in Vidavaluru mandal of Nellore district.
The fire destroyed the house of Pamanji Govindu, with flames consuming all household articles, including valuables and cash. Govindu, his wife and children managed to flee the house in their nightclothes.
According to the family, the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit, causing an estimated loss of around ₹5 lakh. The incident occurred while a night sports event was underway in the village, and locals promptly alerted the fire department.
Fire personnel rushed to the spot and doused the flames, but by then the house and its contents had been reduced to ashes.
The affected family appealed to the government for financial assistance to rebuild their home and sought support from Kovur MLA Prasanthi Reddy. Vidavaluru sub-inspector Naresh registered a case and said an inquiry was under way.
Residents expressed shock and sorrow that the incident occurred during the New Year period, leaving the family homeless.
