VISAKHAPATNAM: A fire broke out at Poorna Market in the city in the early hours of Tuesday, destroying 10 shops. No casualties were reported. District Fire Officer S. Renukaiah said the department received an emergency call around 1.40 am. Fire crews rushed to the spot with two vehicles from the Visakhapatnam fire station and an additional tender from Marripalem, and the blaze was brought under control.
“No injuries were reported and the extent of property loss is yet to be assessed,” she said.
Later, Mayor Peela Srinivasa Rao inspected the site and interacted with affected traders. He said the incident occurred at midnight, preventing loss of life, and assured all possible assistance. The mayor directed officials to post watchmen at the site and asked police to intensify night patrols in the area.
