NELLORE: District collector A. Thameem Ansariya on Tuesday said farm ponds are proving to be a game-changer in improving farmers’ income by conserving rainwater and preventing wastage.

During her visit to Cumbam mandal, the collector inspected farm ponds constructed under the MGNREGS in Kandulapuram village and Kambham Panchayat. She interacted with farmers Ann Murali and Ann Prasad, inquiring about their crops and farming practices. She also planted a sapling along with officials.

At the site, the collector interacted with MGNREGS workers and took note of complaints regarding pending payments. She directed DWAMA officials to submit a report detailing the number of workers employed, work progress, and payments made.

Later, she visited a farm pond on the land of farmer Venkateswara Reddy in Cumbam Panchayat and highlighted the benefits of rainwater harvesting. “These ponds enrich soil quality and support sustainable crop growth. Every farmer should consider building one,” she said.

She informed that 1,075 ponds have been completed across the district, with 800 more underway. In Kambham mandal, 50 of 140 planned ponds are ready, and 78 are under construction.
