Farm Labourer Held for Murder of Elderly Woman in Srikalahasti

Special teams led by CI D. Nagarjuna Reddy traced and caught the suspect near Tangellapalem on the outskirts of Srikalahasti on Friday. Police recovered the stolen ornaments from his possession. The SP said the accused admitted to the crime during interrogation. He was later produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.

 Tirupati: Tirupati district police have arrested a man in connection with the murder of an elderly woman at Pulla Reddy Kandriga village in Srikalahasti mandal on November 26.

Disclosing the case details here on Friday, SP L. Subba Rayudu said the arrested accused has been identified as Sannireddy Ramesh Reddy (42). According to the SP, he had been working as an agricultural labourer for local farmer Chevireddy Madhusudhan Reddy and was struggling with debts. Police found that he planned to break into the employer’s house to steal valuables.

On the night of the incident, Ramesh Reddy allegedly entered the house after cutting the window grills. Once inside, he was confronted by Madhusudhan Reddy’s parents, Chevireddy Mahadeva Reddy and his wife, Jayamma. “The accused attacked the elderly couple with a knife. Jayamma died on the spot, while her husband survived with injuries. The accused fled with her gold bangles, chain and a mobile phone,” SP Rayudu said.
