Encroachments Choke Roads Around Nellore Veg Market

Nellore: Commuters and shoppers are having a tough time navigating the roads around the AC Subbareddy Vegetable Market near Madras Bus Stand in Nellore city, as roadside vendors continue to occupy both sides of the road. Motorists complain that the encroachments are not only narrowing the carriageway but also bringing traffic to a crawl during peak hours.
“It is a herculean task to cross the road between the District Court and V.R. College Junction,” said a frustrated motorist. “Vehicles move at a snail’s pace, and pedestrians are forced to walk dangerously close to traffic.”

The absence of parking facilities adds to the mess, with vehicles being parked haphazardly, further narrowing the road.
Motorists say that even a short visit to the market turns into an ordeal, with cars and two-wheelers blocking each other and spilling into moving traffic.
Taking note of these problems, health department officer Dr. On Monday, health officer Dr. Kanakadhri inspected the market and Division 12 and directed municipal sanitation staff to clear encroachments and improve cleanliness. He stressed that such a busy market must be kept “spotlessly clean and hygienic.” Ward secretaries, sanitation staff and inspectors joined the drive.
