ENC Gears Up to Host International Fleet Review, Milan

Visakhapatnam: Eastern Naval Command of the Indian Navy is looking forward to hosting the international fleet review, Milan, and Indian Ocean Naval symposium next February, said Flag Officer, Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendherkar.
Addressing the Independence Day Parade held at the headquarters, Eastern Naval Command on Friday, the Flag Officer said these global events would bring together a large number of the world’s navies to enhance cooperation and interoperability amongst the participating navies.
Underscoring the Indian Navy’s role at the forefront of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Rajesh Pendherkar said as of date, more than 60 warships and submarines were under construction in Indian shipyards — a testament to indigenous design, engineering, and innovation. He said that in the last year, a number of indigenous platforms have been commissioned or inducted in the Eastern Naval Command. These include Nirdeshak, which was commissioned in December, Arnala in June, and Nistar in July. Nilgiri, the first of the indigenously designed and built P17A class of Stealth Frigates, was commissioned in Mumbai and joined the Eastern Fleet in June, Rajesh Pendherkar said.
“Later this month, we will commission two more of these potent platforms, Himgiri and Udaygiri. Later this year, ENC will commission two more ASW Shallow Water Craft. The Commissioning of INS Nistar, which was built by the Hindustan Shipyard Limited, has given a fillip to our submarine rescue capability. The ship now gives us the ability to carry out rescue for a submarine mishap anywhere in the world and also, provide this service to other nations,’’ the Vice Admiral said.
Earlier, the Vice Admiral inspected a 50-man Guard of Honour and took the salute as naval contingents marched in precision. The parade showcased personnel from the Indian Navy, Defence Security Corps, National Cadet Corps, and Sea Cadet Corps, symbolising unity and dedication in service to the nation. The occasion was witnessed by the flag officers, officers, and sailors from various ships, submarines, and establishments, as well as esteemed veterans and families. The gathering reflected the strong bond between serving personnel and those who have proudly worn the uniform before them.
