Eluru Police Arrest 16 for Theft of Bikes

Kakinada:Eluru Three Town police arrested 16 persons for theft of motor bikes. Those arrested included those who received or purchased the stolen bikes.
Eluru district superintendent of police K. Pratap Shiva Kishore told reporters on Friday in Eluru that Mohammed Shakir is a mechanic of bikes. His friend Gopisetti Suresh works as a salesman in a private company.
Both got addicted to vices and started lifting bikes about a year ago and selling them. Shakir would open the locks of the bikes with alternate keys. Suresh would keep guard till the theft is completed.
After stealing the bikes, they sold them to other persons.
The SP said the two have stolen 50 bikes worth ₹25 lakhs so far under different police station limits.
Following complaints, they registered a case and arrested Shakir and Suresh.
The SP warned people against buying stolen bikes, as receivers are also liable to arrest. Incidentally, 14 of the 16 persons arrested are the receivers of the stolen bikes.
Three Town police have registered a case and are investigating.
