KADAPA:The political atmosphere in Pulivendula is heating up ahead of the municipal chairperson election scheduled for November 1, with a series of incidents triggering tension and concern among voters.

In the latest incident, miscreants allegedly set fire to a car belonging to a YSRC councillor candidate late on Tuesday night. Earlier, on the day of filing nominations for the municipal elections, two vehicles belonging to councillor candidate Nityananda Reddy were reportedly set on fire, adding to the tension in the town.

YSRC MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy has already lodged a complaint with the district superintendent of police, alleging that Pulivendula DSP M. Murali Naik was acting in a partisan manner. The allegations have added to the political confrontation between the ruling alliance and the YSRC in the town.

The Telugu Desam leaders are also determined to gain control of the Pulivendula municipality, which has long been considered a stronghold of the YSRC. The recent visit of YSRC president and former chief minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy to Pulivendula has further intensified the political atmosphere ahead of the crucial election.

With the chairperson election approaching, the police have stepped up security arrangements in the town. Surveillance has been intensified to monitor the movement of outsiders and prevent any untoward incidents.

The police have also issued instructions that only people eligible to vote in the municipal elections should remain within the municipal limits, as part of measures to maintain law and order during the election period

The developments have heightened anxiety among voters, with political parties preparing for a keen contest over control of the municipality.
