Kakindada: In what could possibly set a trend, an elderly man from Kakinada on Thursday approached the city traffic police enquiring whether any challans of irresponsible driving are pending against a person.
The elderly man had to decide whether or not the person could be chosen as a groom for his daughter. Responding to the request of the resident from Rayudupalem village in Kakinada Rural mandal, traffic police checked the records to know about any traffic challans issued against the young vehicle owner for rash driving or involvement in accidents. It so happened that there had been no challans.
On receiving this information, the elderly expressed relief and thanked the officials. According to Traffic-2 circle inspector B. Rama Rao, the elderly man had been considering the youth as a prospective groom for his daughter. The bride’s father wanted to assess the boy’s temperament and discipline.
“Further, the elderly man said his wife had died and it is his responsibility to find a suitable groom for his daughter. The man’s opinion had been that if the youth drives a car or bike in a smooth manner, he will be disciplined and orderly and take care of his daughter,” The CI quoted the man as saying.
Rama Rao said such awareness among parents could encourage youngsters to follow traffic rules and drive responsibly. Saying the prospective groom had no challans pending against him, police officials wished the elderly father well in his efforts to find a suitable match for his daughter. The matter, which drew the attention of social media, led to discussions that parents must also check the CIBIL score and financial discipline of prospective grooms before entering into any marriage alliances.
