VIJAYAWADA: Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Union Ministry of Power, has announced a Diwali offer of a 1,200W induction cooktop with compatible cookware for Rs 6,990, inclusive of taxes, to promote affordable and safer electric cooking.

The offer is part of EESL’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of electric cooking across the country under the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP).

EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit announced the offer while unveiling a report on accelerating e-cooking solutions and technologies. He said electric cooking would help families preserve traditional food practices while adopting cleaner, safer and energy-efficient methods.

Andhra Pradesh has emerged as a frontrunner, with the Women and Child Welfare Department implementing induction-based cooking at all Anganwadi centres.

EESL said induction cooking transfers nearly 85 per cent of energy to cooking vessels, compared with around 40 per cent in conventional LPG cooking. This could reduce energy wastage and household expenses, depending on electricity tariffs and LPG prices.

The company said wider adoption of electric cooking would reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support India’s clean energy transition.
