East Godavari: The elusive male adult tiger 'Explorer ', which has made Andhra Pradesh its home, has struck panic once again in the region, as it was spotted in Gopalapuram mandal in the district recently.
According to locals, the tiger was seen in the forest areas of Karakapadu and Nandigudem villages in Gopalapuram mandal under the Kovvur revenue division. Villagers alerted the forest department officials, who rushed to the spot where they identified tiger pugmarks in the area.
The tiger is being tracked continuously through a radio collar fitted to its neck. This time the forest officials have launched an operation with three separate teams to capture the animal. Drones and trap cameras have also been installed in the forest and surrounding areas.
Forest department officials have advised people to remain alert and are using public address systems to warn villagers and urge them to exercise caution when moving out and also ensure the safety of livestock.
The tiger has travelled across Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, and finally entered Andhra Pradesh after a 650 kms journey, and has apparently adapted to the Godavari landscape since leaving Tadoba.
