Visakhapatnam: Tribal Welfare Minister Gummadi Sandhyarani has held a meeting with the special DSC implementation committee and tribal leaders on the call for a dedicated notification to fill teacher posts in the 5th Schedule Agency area with local tribal candidates.

The meeting discussed implementation of Article 244, Part X, which pertains to Scheduled and Tribal Areas. In particular, it addressed the demand for implementing Article 244 (1) of Schedule 5, which relates to Scheduled Areas and Tribes.

Tribal leaders have urged the tribal advisory council to propose resolutions focused on the welfare and development of tribes in these regions.

During the meeting, Rama Rao Dora, a representative and convener of the AP Adivasi JAC (ASR district), called for urgent action. He proposed that the laws of parliament or the state legislature could be applied to the agency area through a notification from the governor. It, they said, can incorporate necessary changes as outlined in the provisions of the Schedule.

Dora noted that the GO 3 had been overturned on technical grounds, “but the need to prioritise local tribal candidates remains.”

He urged the government to issue a new directive to ensure that local tribals are considered first in recruitment. Tribal associations have requested that these actions be completed by May 15.

In response to these, Sandhyarani assured tribal leaders that their demands would be addressed. "Don’t feel discouraged. The government will stand by tribals. We will issue another Government Order that provides benefits equivalent to those in GO 3," she stated.
