The East Godavari district court has extended the judicial remand of the two accused – Suravarapu Daswanth and Andrew Joseph Edward – in the case of death of PG medical student Dr Priyanka by 14 days.

Chandragiri police bust bike theft gang, recover 18 two-wheelers
Chandragiri police have busted a vehicle theft gang with the arrest of six persons and the recovery of 18 stolen two-wheelers and an auto worth around `20 lakh.
Disclosing the details on Friday, SP L. Subba Rayudu said the gang was involved in vehicle thefts reported in several police station limits in Tirupati, Chittoor and Nellore districts. The accused were arrested on Friday morning near Seshapuram Sivalayam on the Naravaripalle-Bheemavaram road.
The arrested were identified as Pathan Afroz (21), Enimeti Lochan Nivas (19), Krishnappa Achari Sai Krishna (18), M. Vamsi Krishna (19), N. Jitendra Banerjee (20), and Pandala Satish Babu (28), all hailing from different parts of Chittoor and Nellore districts.
Based on the information provided by them, police recovered the stolen vehicles from a reserve forest area near Srinivasamangapuram. Of the recovered vehicles, seven were stolen in Chandragiri, three at the SVU campus, two each in Tirupati Rural, Srikalahasti-I Town and Nellore Rural, and one each in Tiruchanur, Vedayapalem and Manubolu police station limits.
Rayudu said technical evidence and effective investigation helped the police crack the cases. He said special surveillance would continue against vehicle theft gangs and urged people to keep their vehicles secure and inform the police about suspicious activities.
Two held for chain snatching; property worth ₹11.25 lakh recovered
Two persons were arrested in connection with five chain-snatching cases reported in the Yerpedu police station limits, and 75 grams of gold ornaments and a motorcycle, together worth around `11.25 lakh, were recovered from them. The accused were identified as Y. Victor Vijay Raj (22) and Y. David Kumar (19), both from Kummarimitta in Yerpedu mandal.
Disclosing the details at a press meet at the Yerpedu police station on Friday, additional SP (admin and crimes) A. Srinivasulu said the accused targeted women and snatched their gold chains to raise money for alcohol and other expenses.
The five cases were reported in Yerpedu, Marrimanda, Vikrutamala Harijanawada, Govindavaram and Pallam Harijanawada villages during 2024, 2025 and 2026. The ASP said Vijay Raj had studied an electrical course at Ranganath ITI College in Tirupati, and David Kumar was his relative.
2 women die by suicide
Two women ended their lives in separate incidents in Vizianagaram district.
In the first incident, 24-year-old newly married V. Tanuja died by suicide in her residence at Chinarajeru village of Dattirajeru madal for allegedly scoring low marks in the Andhra Pradesh Teacher Eligibility Test (APTET). The woman married Prasanna Kumar on July 2 this year. She appeared for TET recently and verified her answers with the TET answer key and observed that she scored low. Upset with the incident, she took the extreme step. In another incident, 36-year-old K. Jaya died by suicide in her residence in Vizianagaram town following a tiff with her husband Sai Ramakrishna.
The CID personnel arrested two persons for duping people by assuring plots for retired employees. The arrested persons have been identified as M Appala Naidu and Kona Peddakapu. The duo claimed to be realtors and owners of the Pudami Developers company at Karakavalasa under Vepada mandal in the Vizianagaram district. They cheated the customers by selling them fictitious plots and resorted to double registration and collected over Rs1.05 crore. Based on the complaint, the CID registered a case and arrested the duo.
