Doli Rides Continue In ASR District Despite Sanction Of Money For Road
The negligence has continued despite Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan himself inaugurating the construction of the road.
Visakhapatnam: Despite the government allocating #11.65 crore under GO 35 for constructing a BT road from Ballagaruvu to Tuniseebu of ASR district, work on this much-needed facility is yet to begin.
The negligence has continued despite Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan himself inaugurating the construction of the road. As a result, residents of the hilltop tribal villages continue to be carried in “doli” during medical emergencies.
In the latest instance, Kondatabelu Kilumo (40) got carried in a doli for nine kilometres from Madrebu village to Dharagadda before she could secure an ambulance for Paderu Hospital. Such journeys can prove perilous, as the terrain is rugged.
Earlier in April, Kilumo had to be carried for six kilometres when she faced another emergency.
Villagers recall the tragic death of Konda Tambali Chilakamma, who died while being transported six kilometres in a doli.
Officials say the tender process for the road is not yet over. Following this, tribal leaders and activists are preparing for a large-scale protest when the next zilla parishad meeting is held.
