Nellore: A district-level quiz competition to create awareness among youth about HIV/AIDS was organised at PVR Government Boys College in Ongole on Monday.

The programme was conducted by the district medical and health department, Red Ribbon Club and District AIDS Control Unit under the directions of the Andhra Pradesh State AIDS Control Society (AP SACS) and the district collector.

Fourteen teams participated in the quiz covering HIV/AIDS prevention, transmission, treatment, misconceptions and youth health.

SPCM Government Junior College, Tanguturu, won the first prize of Rs 5,000, while Zilla Parishad High School, Chakicherla, secured the second prize of Rs 4,000. Government Junior College, Singarayakonda, won Rs 3,000, and St. Xavier School, Ongole, received Rs 2,000 as a consolation prize.

District Leprosy, AIDS and TB Officer Dr G. Balaji presented prizes and certificates. He stressed scientific awareness to dispel misconceptions and promote preventive practices.
