Anantapur: In a major breakthrough, Satya Sai district police on Saturday nabbed Noor Mohammed Sheik of Dharmavaram town in Satya Sai district. He is a member of banned Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a Pakistan-based jihadist Islamic group.

Police seized 19 SIM cards of different numbers from his possession.

DSP U. Narasingappa told Deccan Chronicle that the police teams of Dharmavaram town have kept a close watch on movements of several suspects following the recent arrest of two militants from the Rayachoti town in Annamayya district. This led them to Noor Mohammed, who works as a cook in a hotel and resides in the Kota area of Dharmavaram town.

The DSP said police traced his phone number and tracked his activities on social media. This revealed that Noor Mohammed has a close nexus with the banned JeM. Following this, on Saturday, a team led by Narasingappa arrested Noor Mohammed. He has studied up to 7th standard in Urdu medium and stays with his mother, who is a beedi maker.

During investigations, it came to light that Noor Mohammed had actively participated in training camps and maintained close contacts with militant outfits through social media.

“However, he had been a loner and did not try to rope in other youth to support the JeM,” the DSP said.

Police presented Noor Mohammed Sheik before the Dharmavaram Court. They will be seeking his custody to extract information about all his activities.
