DGCA Inspects Tirupati Airport After IndiGo Disruption
DGCA officials reviewed operations during the inspection and found services running normally, except for one IndiGo flight cancelled due to low passenger load
TIRUPATI: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) carried out a surprise inspection at Tirupati Airport on Wednesday following major disruptions to IndiGo flights earlier this week.
On December 5, 18 of 24 scheduled movements were cancelled and six delayed. The next day, two flights were cancelled and 10 delayed. Services of other airlines were unaffected, according to the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Airport director D. Boominathan said stranded passengers were provided food, drinking water, accommodation, refunds and alternative travel arrangements through taxis and cabs. A special control room was set up to coordinate support.
DGCA officials reviewed operations during the inspection and found services running normally, except for one IndiGo flight cancelled due to low passenger load.
Boominathan said IndiGo’s operations stabilised from December 7, and all flights are now running to schedule. AAI said it continues to closely monitor the situation to ensure passenger comfort.
