Depression Crosses Coast, Heavy Rains Today
Home minister reviews preparedness for rains in north Andhra
Visakhapatnam: Parts of the Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram and Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) districts are bracing up for heavy rains on Saturday, July 26, as the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal intensified into a depression and has crossed the coast.
Under its influence, many parts of Srikakulam and few parts of the Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, ASR, Eluru and NTR districts experienced moderate to heavy rainfall on Friday.
An IMD report said the depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of coastal West Bengal and Bangladesh has moved west-northwest-wards and crossed West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh coasts on Friday morning. It lay centred over coastal West Bengal and adjoining areas of northwest Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh.
The depression is very likely to move west–north-westwards across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining north Odisha and Jharkhand on Saturday.
Many parts of Amadalavalasa, Sarubujjili, Ponduru and Burja mandals in Srikakulam district experienced heavy rainfall on Friday. The rainfall led to waterlogging in paddy fields and roads in the villages. The heavy rain in parts of the ASR and Manyam districts slowed vehicular traffic and affected normal life.
As per the IMD, rainfall occurred at most places over coastal Andhra Pradesh (CAP) and one or two places over Rayalaseema between Thursday morning and Friday morning. Palakonda in Manyam district recorded 5 cm of rainfall during the period, followed by 4 cm of rainfall in Paderu (ASR), and 3 cm of rainfall each in Veeraghattam (Manyam), Chintapalle (ASR), Jangamaheswarapuram (Palnadu) and Pathapatnam (Srikakulam).
