Dedicated Commission Inquiries on Socio-Economic Status of BCs
He said reservations would be finalised after assessing the BC population ratio in each constituency and that the commission’s objective was to ensure benefits reach backward classes.
Kakinada:A dedicated commission on Backward Classes (BC) reservations held a public hearing in Rajamahendravaram on Monday as part of its study on finalising BC reservations in local bodies across the state.
Commission chairman Rajiv Ranjan Mishra said social and economic backwardness, rather than caste enumeration alone, would be the primary criteria in determining reservations, along with population ratios and region-specific conditions.
He reviewed the issue with officials including Joint Collector Y. Megha Swaroop, RMC Commissioner Rahul Meena, Assistant Collector Kshitij Aditya Sarma and Additional Secretary D. Chandrasekhar, and directed them to submit details of BC reservations in previous local body elections and winning candidates.
He said reservations would be finalised after assessing the BC population ratio in each constituency and that the commission’s objective was to ensure benefits reach backward classes. Representations were received from BC leaders and individuals during the hearing.
