DC Impact: Anam Ramanarayana Assures Restoration of Talpagiri Heritage Artefacts
Anam Ramanarayana Reddy said a new temple management committee was being constituted and would be entrusted with the responsibility of restoring and preserving the temple’s priceless artefacts.
Nellore: Reacting to a Deccan Chronicle report on the deteriorating condition of invaluable gifts and heritage artefacts at the historic Sri Talpagiri Ranganathaswamy temple, endowments minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy assured that comprehensive restoration works would be taken up shortly.
The minister said a new temple management committee was being constituted and would be entrusted with the responsibility of restoring and preserving the temple’s priceless artefacts. He told DC that the committee list has already been forwarded to him for approval and that the process would be completed at the earliest to enable immediate action.
The report had highlighted the neglect of centuries-old offerings, including rare Tanjore mural paintings, heritage silk textiles and other artefacts, with concerns raised over water seepage, peeling murals and lack of scientific conservation.
Built in the 12th century, the temple is noted for its architectural uniqueness, including the west-facing reclining deity and the Addala Mandapam (Hall of Mirrors). Devotees and heritage enthusiasts have welcomed the assurance, expressing hope that expert agencies will be engaged for scientific restoration while preserving the shrine’s sanctity and historical value.
