KAKINADA: Tourist boat services and ferry operations at Pochavaram in Chinturu revenue division will be suspended from October 26 in view of unfavourable weather conditions associated with a possible cyclonic storm.

Chinturu sub-collector and ITDA project officer Chittapuli Narendra Padal said the weather system could bring heavy rainfall and cause a rise in the Godavari river’s water level, posing risks to passengers.

According to weather forecasts, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm, bringing heavy rain, thunderstorms and lightning to coastal Andhra Pradesh and the Godavari river basin.

The suspension has been ordered as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety. The directive was issued in accordance with regulations under the Inland Vessels Act, 1917.

Boat operators, owners and the officials concerned have been instructed to strictly comply with the orders. All boating activities at the Pochavaram ferry point will remain suspended until further instructions are issued, Padal said.
