Visakhapatnam: In a commendable initiative, 11 two-bedroom flats have been readied for the descendants of Manyam Hero Gam Gantam Dora, a dedicated follower of revered freedom fighter Alluri Seetharama Raju.

This project incurred a total cost of Rs.2.5 crore. Each flat has a living space of 700 sq-ft.

The project was undertaken by a Hyderabad-based private company using its CSR funds on land allotted by the AP government. The flats have been handed over to the beneficiaries free of cost, ensuring them complete ownership.

The handover event was led by ASR district collector Dinesh Kumar at Lanka Vedhee on the outskirts of Battapanukula Panchayat in Koyyuru mandal. The collector said the government fully supported the construction and “is also engaged in efforts to document the narratives of Manyam's heroes in the freedom struggle. The plans include the production and screening of a film dedicated to their stories.

Notably, it was during the 125th birth anniversary celebrations of Alluri Sitarama Raju on July 4, 2023, that the company’s MD, Padma Shri AVS Raju, promised to donate new homes to tribal villagers to enhance their quality of life. In collaboration with the state government, the land was allocated for the Ghantam Dora family, upon which the company constructed the flats.

The flats are organised into two blocks --with ground, first, and second floors, each holding two flats per floor. Each flat comprises two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a hall, and a kitchen.

The company stated that this endeavour served as a tribute to the invaluable legacy of the noted freedom fighter's family. AAV Rangaraju stated, “We take great pride in contributing to the uplift of tribal families, who are descendants of freedom fighters. By providing these well-equipped homes, our objective is to enhance their living standards while paying homage to the sacrifices made by their ancestors for our nation.”

This initiative exemplifies our ongoing commitment to building infrastructure and fostering an improved society.”

The tribal families that received ownership of the newly constructed flats expressed optimism that their quality of life would be considerably enhanced.
