Police said the accused were also actively involved in betting on illegal apps
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam cyber crime police have arrested two men from Telangana for facilitating illegal online cricket betting by supplying mule accounts for transactions worth crores of rupees.
The accused were identified as Kanukutla Santosh Reddy (26) and Abburi Gopi (25), both from Telangana. Police registered a case under Sections 112(1), 319(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act, and Sections 3 and 4 of the AP Gaming Act, 1974. They were produced before a magistrate and remanded to 14 days’ judicial custody. Mobile phones used for the betting activities were seized.
According to police, the duo assisted the main operators, who ran illegal cricket betting networks, by acting as “analysts” through Telegram channels. They allegedly provided mule bank accounts, UPI IDs, mobile numbers and other credentials to route betting transactions.
Police said the accused were also actively involved in betting on illegal apps, explained betting methods to others, and helped expand the network through social media platforms.
