Counter Intelligence Nabs Key Accused In Naval Dockyard Spy Case
Srinivas, listed as Accused No. 3, and the principal accused, Bongu Ravi, worked for a private engineering firm operating at the Naval Dockyard: Investigators
VISAKHAPATNAM: The Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence Cell, central intelligence agencies, and police arrested an absconding accused in a case involving the alleged sharing of sensitive information about ships and submarines at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
Kadari Srinivas, 31, a resident of Gandhigram in Visakhapatnam, had been intercepted at Delhi airport on October 11 while returning from Saudi Arabia. He had reportedly been living there since leaving India in October 2025. Police brought him to Malkapuram police station and produced him before a local court on October 12. The court has remanded Srinivas to judicial custody and lodged him in Visakhapatnam Central Prison.
Investigators said Srinivas, listed as Accused No. 3, and the principal accused, Bongu Ravi, worked for a private engineering firm operating at the Naval Dockyard.
Police charge that Ravi contacted an unidentified woman on Facebook in 2023. Using the name "Angel Payal", she claimed to work for a Dubai-based shipping logistics company. She allegedly persuaded him to share information about ships and submarines at the dockyard in exchange for money.
Investigators say Ravi and Srinivas colluded in sharing information about the presence and movement of naval vessels and submarines within the restricted defence establishment. They have traced payments from the woman to Ravi, who allegedly passed on a portion of the money to Srinivas.
Ravi has already been arrested and remanded to judicial custody. Srinivas had left India before the investigation progressed, prompting authorities to issue a Look Out Circular (LOC) against him. Authorities took him into custody when he returned to India.
Malkapuram police station registered a case in October 2025 under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Official Secrets Act, 1923. They have now filed a chargesheet against the accused under relevant provisions of the BNS and the Official Secrets Act.
In a statement, the Andhra Pradesh Counter Intelligence Cell said it would continue working with central agencies to safeguard national security and pursue legal action in cases affecting India’s sovereignty and security.
