The collector urged the public to adopt preventive measures such as reducing salt intake, exercising regularly and managing stress through yoga and meditation.
Chittoor collector Sumit Kumar called for intensive public awareness campaigns to curb the growing incidence of hypertension, describing high blood pressure as a “silent killer” that can trigger serious cardiac ailments and other life-threatening complications if left undetected.
The collector unveiled a banner for Hypertension Prevention Week at the collectorate on Friday. The programme is being organised by the district medical and health department ahead of World Hypertension Day.
Addressing officials, Sumit Kumar stressed the need for early detection, regular monitoring and effective control of blood pressure to reduce premature deaths. He noted that changing lifestyles, stress and unhealthy food habits are contributing to rising hypertension cases even among younger people.
He said normal blood pressure levels are around 120/80 mmHg and advised people to undergo periodic health check-ups.
The collector urged the public to adopt preventive measures such as reducing salt intake, exercising regularly and managing stress through yoga and meditation. He also directed officials to organise extensive awareness programmes to promote healthier lifestyles.
