Coalition Govt Rolls Out Higher Education Reforms, Job Drive: Vijay Kumar
The third phase would include Group-II vacancies in engineering, endowments and irrigation departments.
VIJAYAWADA: The coalition government is undertaking reforms in higher education while linking academic qualifications with employment opportunities, AP Biodiversity Board chairman and Telugu Desam spokesperson Neelayapalem Vijay Kumar said on Tuesday.
Addressing the media at the TD central office at NTR Bhavan in Mangalagiri, Mr Vijay Kumar said the government had filled 22,000 government posts and was preparing notifications for another 10,000 jobs under its annual job calendar.
He said the first phase would include recruitment to 1,523 university faculty posts, while the second would cover 149 Group-I posts, including Deputy Collectors, DSPs and Commercial Tax Officers, besides 2,185 posts in the police, forestry, veterinary and welfare departments. The third phase would include Group-II vacancies in engineering, endowments and irrigation departments. A mega notification for 2,995 DSC posts would also be issued.
Vijay Kumar accused the previous YSRC government of failing to conduct a DSC examination and leaving university faculty recruitment stalled for 14 years. He said the government was reviewing court and SIT reports to restore transparency in the APPSC.
Under the AP Private Universities Bill 2026, land requirements have been reduced to 10 acres in major hubs and 15 acres elsewhere, with single-window clearances to be provided within 60 days, he said.
The government was also adopting a “Hub and Spoke” model for skill development, with curricula being co-designed by industry, Vijay Kumar said. SEEDAP had already trained two to three lakh youth and the government aimed to transform higher education within three years, he added.
