CM Pushes For Speedy Amaravati Capital Works

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is making all-out efforts to accelerate the construction of the people’s capital Amaravati, with the major infrastructure projects, funding arrangements and land allocations moving forward at a brisk pace.

Naidu held frequent review meetings on capital Amaravati, reviewed the situation and instructed the speedup of the construction works. Out of the 119 major infrastructure projects proposed for Amaravati, approvals have been issued for 113. Work has commenced on 97 projects, of which four have been completed, while 93 are in various stages of progress.

To ensure uniform development across Amaravati, the CM has directed that 29 capital villages be upgraded to city standards. Some `904 crore has been earmarked to provide roads, underground drainage, and drinking water supply.

The CM noted that the capital city’s construction had suffered delays under the previous government, leading to a nearly 25 per cent cost escalation. On funding, he said loans amounting to `41,187.70 crore have been mobilised through the World Bank, HUDCO, NABARD, NABFID and APPFC.

Since 2024, `12,731.13 crore has been spent on capital works. The total expenditure for all 119 projects is estimated at `66,802 crore, with ongoing works accounting for `58,093 crore.

Hailing the sacrifices of farmers for Capital Amaravati construction, Naidu said 98 per cent of returnable plots under the land pooling scheme have been allotted. Some 71,299 returnable plots have been distributed among 30,173 farmers, with development works on these plots currently under way. Since 2014, farmers have also received `2,248.02 crore in lease payments.

“The government has been pushing ahead with Amaravati’s development as the state capital, with the construction of major government buildings and associated infrastructure being taken up as part of the capital development programme,” Naidu said.

Urban development minister Ponguru Narayana has set a two-year target for completing Amaravati’s iconic government buildings and directed officials and construction agencies to accelerate the works to meet the deadline.

Narayana said the construction of the GAD Tower, Heads of Department Towers and the Assembly building should be taken up at a faster pace. He called for close monitoring of the works and immediate resolution of any hurdles that could delay construction.

Steel diagrid works on five towers forming part of Amaravati’s iconic buildings are progressing rapidly. The works have entered important stages, with construction agencies focusing on completing the structural components and moving ahead with the subsequent phases.

Construction agencies have also informed the minister that work on the crucial spire of the Assembly building is expected to begin within a week. The spire, a key architectural feature of the assembly building, will mark another significant stage in the construction of the complex.
