VIJAYAWADA: The official Wall Calendar, Table Calendar and Diary of the Andhra Pradesh Legislature for 2026 were released on Tuesday by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.

These New Year presentations highlight the state’s rich biodiversity through a blend of traditional art and modern technology.

The ceremony was attended by Assembly speaker Chintakayala Ayyannapatrudu, legislative affairs minister Payyavula Keshav, and legislature’s secretary general Prasanna Kumar Suryadevara.

Titled “Biodiversity – The Living Heritage of Andhra Pradesh,” the 2026 calendar is a visual tribute to the state’s diverse ecological wealth. It features 12 iconic wild animal species drawn from different ecosystems of Andhra Pradesh, including the Eastern Ghats, the grasslands, the Coringa mangroves and the long coastline along the Bay of Bengal.

A distinctive feature of this edition is its creative fusion of heritage and innovation.

The wildlife illustrations are presented in the traditional Kalamkari art style, a prized artistic legacy of AP, generated using Artificial Intelligence. According to officials, the initiative reflected the chief minister’s vision of leveraging modern technology for constructive and socially relevant purposes.

Addressing the gathering, Naidu congratulated the speaker and the legislature secretariat for introducing the concept of a theme-based calendar and for the innovation reflected in the 2026 edition. “These 12 majestic species are not merely images on a page but rightful co-inhabitants of our land,” he said, stressing the need for harmonious coexistence.

He warned that disturbances to ecological balance inevitably lead to man–animal conflict, which is being witnessed with increasing frequency.

The Chief Minister noted that the calendar conveyed a strong and timely message on environmental protection, wildlife conservation and the far-reaching consequences of climate change.

He also said the legislature has a dedicated committee on wildlife and environment protection, chaired by the speaker, underscoring the importance the state accorded to ecological well-being.
Speaker Ch. Ayyannapatrudu said every animal featured in the calendar enjoys the highest level of protection under Schedule I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The initiative aimed to sensitise society to the need for wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

The Calendar–2026 is part of the “Heritage of Andhra Pradesh” series launched in 2025. Last year’s edition, “Legendary Telugus in the Constituent Assembly,” commemorated the 75th anniversary of the republic by showcasing twelve eminent Telugus who contributed to drafting the Constitution.
