Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to take urgent steps to ensure the safe return of Bhaghyavathi, a resident of Thondavada village in Chandragiri mandal of Tirupati district, who is reportedly stranded in Kuwait under distressing circumstances.
According to officials, Bhaghyavathi travelled to Kuwait in February this year in search of employment and was working as a domestic helper. However, it was later found that the agents who facilitated her travel had allegedly failed to provide her with a valid work visa.
The Chief Minister’s Office responded after media reports highlighted her plight. Bhaghyavathi reportedly contacted her family members and shared a selfie video on social media alleging physical and mental harassment. She also claimed that she was being pressured to pay money when she sought assistance to return to India.
Acting on the state government’s directions, APNRT initiated communication with the Indian Embassy in Kuwait to prioritise her safety and facilitate her early repatriation.
The Chief Minister also directed officials to investigate the role of the agents involved and initiate legal action if any violations are found.
Meanwhile, the Tirupati district administration and Chandragiri police are in constant touch with Bhaghyavathi’s family and have assured them of full support until her safe return.
