CM Naidu Clears ₹1,437-Crore Infrastructure Push for Amaravati Villages

Vijayawada: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has cleared Rs 1,437 crore for enabling a major infrastructure push, along with civic amenities, in 29 villages of the Amaravati Capital.

Chairing the 65th meeting of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) at the Secretariat on Thursday, the AP CM said ₹533 crore of this will be for critical infrastructure. He explained that the works will cover roads, stormwater drains, underground drainage, drinking water pipelines, and street lighting in 29 villages, whose farmers have offered their lands for the capital during 2014–19. Like the Amaravati city, these villages too will have an underground drainage system.

The Chief Minister further approved `596 crore for construction of a Central Public Library, an auditorium, and HR-related buildings at Sakhamuru. He pointed out that the government had initially proposed cement-concrete roads in the LPS layouts. However, after studies conducted by the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi, and IIT Kharagpur, they have opted for bitumen roads instead, taking into account the soil conditions in Amaravati and the expected rise in vehicular traffic.

Naidu announced that the CRDA has been asked to prepare a draft master plan for developing a district cooling system in Amaravati.

Participating in the meeting, Municipal Administration and Urban Development minister P. Narayana disclosed that to encourage private-sector development, CRDA has identified 42 acres of land for projects related to residences, shops, offices, and similar facilities. The identified parcels include 7.9 acres at Pitchukalapalem, five acres at Tulluru, 12.38 acres at Mandadam, six acres at Kuragallu, and six acres at another location.

The minister said a new policy has been approved for allotting additional lands to projects like three, four, and five-star hotels and national and international schools. However, they will have to pay at least 250 per cent of the prevailing minimum price for the additional land. With the present minimum price fixed at `4.1 crore per acre, additional land allotted will cost not less than `10.25 crore per acre.

In a significant relief to farmers participating in the ongoing land pooling, CRDA has approved loan waivers of up to ₹1.5 lakh per farmer family for loans taken before January 1, 2026. The authority approved supply of drinking water from Amaravati to the Mangalagiri Municipal Corporation. Against the present requirement of 30 MLD, provision has been made to increase the same to 80 MLD over the next 30 years.

Further, the CRDA has approved an MoU with the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) for developing green-energy infrastructure in Amaravati. The authority sanctioned 8.5 acres for the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) to establish a deemed university. It decided to extend land pooling to areas of Tadikonda and Kanteru along the proposed Inner Ring Road and railway track corridors up to the Capital City limits.

In addition, the CRDA has decided that water from the Amaravati storage facilities will be supplied to the needy on payment of `10 per kilolitre.
