Circular Economy Through E-Waste Management: Andhra Pradesh CS

Vijayawada: Principal secretary K. Vijayanand emphasised that protecting the environment and creating a circular economy is possible only through scientific management of electronic and electrical waste. He was speaking at an e-waste awareness programme held under the Swarnandhra–Swachhchandra initiative at Sri Venkateswara Vignan Mandir, Guntur, on Saturday.

Vijayanand, Swachhchandra Corporation chairman Kommareddy Pattabhiram, district collector S. Nagalakshmi, and other officials planted saplings and signed a signature campaign.
Vijayanand noted that the increasing use of electronic gadgets is generating more e-waste, which, if not processed properly, causes serious land and water pollution. He said Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (RRR) centres would be established across the state to handle e-waste, and a special e-waste policy will be introduced soon by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu.
Pattabhiram said that under Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), companies would be made accountable for recycling e-waste. Collector Nagalakshmi added that Swarnandhra–Swachhchandra is being observed on the third Saturday of every month since January with a unique theme. Over 1.9 crore people have participated so far.
