Chittoor Village Mourning Martyrdom of Young Soldier
Tirupati: The Eguva Ragimanupenta village in Chittoor district is mourning the martyrdom of army Jawan Pangal Kartheek (28) in an encounter with terrorists in Sopore, north Kashmir region. He died in action on Monday morning. The mortal remains will be brought to his village within three days.
Born into an agricultural family, Kartheek was the eldest son of Varadarajulu and Selvi. The family supported his dream of serving the nation. He joined the Indian Army in 2017 after leaving his degree studies midway.
Natives say the young soldier was known for his friendly demeanour and love for his country. "Kartheek was more than a soldier; he was a brother to everyone here. He often spoke about his duty with pride," a neighbour said.
The tragedy has left father Varadarajulu devastated. "My son spoke to me the day before, saying he would come home in February. He told us his operation was risky, but I never thought it would end like this," he said.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu expressed his sorrow, saying, "The news is deeply saddening. Kartheek’s sacrifice for the nation is unparalleled, and we owe a debt of gratitude to his family. The government assures full support to the bereaved family."
Former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy conveyed his sympathies, stating "The martyrdom of Kartheek is deeply distressing. I pray for his soul to rest in peace and for his family to find strength in this tragic time."
Kartheek was killed during a joint operation by the Army, paramilitary forces, and J&K Police in Sopore's Zaloora Gujjarpatti area. Acting on intelligence, the forces launched the operation on Sunday evening, uncovering a terrorist hideout. A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued, during which Kartheek sustained critical injuries. Despite receiving treatment at the 92 Base Army Hospital, he died on Monday morning.
