Naidu Directs Officials to Complete 5.52 Lakh Houses by March 2027
CM directs officials to focus on developing industrial townships for economic growth
VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to complete 5.52 lakh houses by March 2027 under the state government’s Housing for All programme, which aims to provide every eligible family with a permanent house by 2029.
Reviewing the performance of the housing department on Tuesday, Naidu directed officials to ground houses sanctioned under various schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin and PM Janman, by next month. He also called for the construction of 1.5 lakh houses in urban areas.
The Chief Minister set a target of completing 2.05 lakh houses by December 2026 and another 2.74 lakh by March 2027, making them ready for housewarming ceremonies.
Officials informed him that 18.72 lakh houses had been sanctioned under PMAY 1.0, PMAY 2.0 and PM Janman, of which 13.20 lakh had been completed. Under the AP Housing Corporation, work on 11.31 lakh of the 16.11 lakh sanctioned houses had been completed. Some 1.88 lakh of the 2.61 lakh houses sanctioned under the AP Tisco had also been completed.
Naidu directed officials to ensure the sanction of another 75,000 houses by December 2027 and bring 1.5 lakh more houses into the pipeline. He asked them to coordinate with the Union ministries of rural and urban development to secure the required allocations.
The CM directed officials to identify the actual demand among families without house sites by integrating data from RTGS, Awaas Plus, the housing and revenue departments, eliminating duplication.
Officials, he said, must publish preliminary beneficiary lists at village and ward secretariat levels, invite objections and finalise the lists transparently after resolving them. Unused land in existing layouts should be reorganised into two- or three-cent plots based on demand.
The CM also ordered continuous monitoring of vacant sites, mapping of eligible beneficiaries and construction progress until completion. Saturation-mode housing should also be taken up in Kuppam constituency.
Naidu reiterated that the government’s objective was to provide every eligible family in the state with a permanent house by 2029 through coordination among departments.
He also asked the housing department to explore construction of industrial townships in different parts of the state with central assistance. Such townships in industrial zones, including Sri City, could boost economic activity and transactions.
The department was asked to coordinate with the AP industrial infrastructure corporation for their development. Housing minister Kolusu Parthasarathy and senior officials of the housing and finance departments attended the review.
