Chandrababu Naidu Calls ECI Clarification on SIR Reaffirmation of Constitutional Body’s Integrity
Naidu said decisions relating to the SIR of electoral rolls are being taken collectively by the Election Commission and in accordance with established institutional protocols.
Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday backed the Election Commission’s clarification on the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
He asserted that the poll panel’s statement reaffirms the integrity and credibility of India’s constitutional institutions.
In a post on social media platform X, the Naidu maintained that the clarification issued by all three ECI commissioners – Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and election commissioners S.S. Sandhu and Vivek Joshi – addresses the misconceptions surrounding the electoral roll revision exercise.
Naidu’s remarks came after the Election Commission issued a clarification on the functioning and decision-making process concerning the revision of electoral rolls.
In his post on X, the AP Chief Minister tagged the official Election Commission of India account @ECISVEEP.
Naidu said decisions relating to the SIR of electoral rolls are being taken collectively by the Election Commission and in accordance with the established institutional protocols.
He observed that attempts to undermine global confidence in India’s democratic framework and electoral processes for short-term political gains are “deeply unfortunate.”
He emphasised that electoral outcomes reflect the mandate of the people.
He said political leadership in a democracy is required to accept both victories and defeats with grace and humility.
Naidu said respect for constitutional institutions is paramount and leaders across party lines have a collective responsibility towards upholding public confidence in India’s democratic process.
