Vijayawada: In a significant relief to growers of pulses in Andhra Pradesh, central government has approved the procurement of pulses under the Price Support Scheme (PSS) during the 2025-26 Kharif season.
The approval ensures remunerative prices for pulses and protection against volatility within the market.
The green signal for procurement of pulses during Kharif under PSS came in the form of a letter that union Agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan wrote to his counterpart in AP Kinjarapu Atchannaidu.
As per the decision, 1,16,690 metric tonnes of red gram (tur), 903 metric tonnes of green gram (moong) and 28,440 metric tonnes of black gram (urad) will be procured from Andhra Pradesh with payment of the minimum support price.
The union minister said the approval reflects the centre’s commitment to intervene in markets when necessary to ensure MSP and prevent farmers from making distress sales.
Welcoming the centre’s MSP, AP minister Atchannaidu said the procurement process will be launched expeditiously, so as not to cause inconvenience to farmers. Necessary arrangements will be made to ensure transparent procurement at the MSP, he underlined.
