Visakhapatnam: The Central government has granted in-principle approval for a 200-kilometre Greenfield Coastal National Highway connecting Mulapeta Port in Srikakulam district to Bhogapuram Airport in Visakhapatnam, marking a significant push for infrastructure and economic growth along North Andhra Pradesh’s coastline.

According to Tekkali revenue officials, the highway will link key strategic assets, including the upcoming Bhogapuram International Airport and Moolapeta Port, and is expected to boost tourism, industrial development, and aquaculture in the region. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is currently under preparation. Once finalised, the Andhra Pradesh government will initiate the land acquisition process.

Spanning untouched coastal stretches and fishing hubs, the proposed route aims to enhance connectivity to rural pockets, facilitate export logistics, and create employment opportunities across sectors. Officials emphasised that the project was the result of a year's persuasion and would bring long-term benefits to communities dependent on marine resources and hospitality services.

Credible sources in the Tekkali revenue office told Deccan Chronicle that the final administrative orders are pending to initiate the project's implementation phase.
