Vijayawada police recovered a Guntur woman’s lost iPhone within hours using the city’s CCTV surveillance network and facial recognition system (FRS) during the Dasara Sarannavaratri festivities.
The woman had visited Vijayawada on Sunday for Goddess Durga’s darshan. She accidentally left her phone unattended at an annadanam centre, where a boy allegedly took it.
After she approached the police, personnel examined CCTV footage through the Command Control Centre and identified the boy. His photograph was uploaded to the facial recognition system to trace him. Police soon located him, recovered the phone and returned it to the devotee.
The woman thanked the NTR district police for their prompt response. Police said surveillance would continue throughout the festivities and urged devotees to report lost valuables or other problems immediately.
