Tirupati: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday arrested three persons in connection with its investigation into alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery and destruction of evidence.
The arrested persons were identified as D.A. Srinivas and D.A. Kalpaja, the son and daughter of former Chittoor MP and TTD Chairman D.K. Audikesavulu Naidu, and S.Y. Mohan, a Deputy Superintendent of Police currently working with the Human Rights Commission in Bengaluru. They were produced before a jurisdictional court and remanded to judicial custody till December 29.
The arrests were made in cases registered by the CBI following directions from the Karnataka High Court, which ordered that the investigation be transferred from the Bengaluru police to the central agency. The decision to hand over the probe was later upheld by the Supreme Court of India.
According to officials, the cases relate to the death of K. Raghunath and connected allegations involving forged documents, alleged misuse of government seals and stamps, preparation of false records and destruction of evidence.
Raghunath, who was closely associated with Audikesavulu Naidu, was found dead in May 2019 under suspicious circumstances. He was known to own several immovable properties in Bengaluru and nearby areas. After the former MP’s death in 2013, Raghunath was said to be in possession of certain properties linked to him.
The CBI is examining allegations that Srinivas and others had allegedly pressured Raghunath to transfer some of these properties, claiming that the assets were purchased using funds allegedly belonging to Audikesavulu Naidu. Officials said these allegations are yet to be established and are being verified as part of the probe.
Initially, an unnatural death case was registered based on a complaint lodged by Raghunath’s son. In February 2020, his wife filed a separate complaint alleging murder linked to a property dispute, following which the investigation was entrusted to the CBI.
