Burglars Loot 150 Tolas Of Gold From 2 Houses

VISAKHAPATNAM: Unidentified burglars broke into two locked houses in GMR Township at Rajam town in Vizianagaram district and decamped with about 150 tolas of gold ornaments worth nearly ₹2 crore.

The theft occurred on the night of February 1, when the culprits targeted two apartments whose owners were away. After breaking open iron almirahs, they allegedly stole 125 tolas of gold jewellery from one house and 25 tolas from the other.

The incident came to light when the residents returned and found the houses ransacked, following which Rajam police were alerted. Superintendent of police A.R. Damodar inspected both crime scenes on Monday.

The SP announced the formation of 10 special investigation teams and expressed confidence of an early breakthrough. He said the clues team and dog squad had inspected the scenes and collected evidence using scientific methods. Preliminary investigation revealed that three suspects were captured on CCTV cameras in the area around the time of the theft.

Expert investigators from the Crime Control Section (CCS) and other specialised units have been brought to Rajam. The teams are working under the supervision of Cheepurupalli DSP S. Raghavulu, with each team headed by a circle inspector or sub-inspector.
