Vijayawada: In a move underscoring political propriety and ethical responsibility, Jana Sena general secretary (Environment) and national convenor of Jal Biradari Bolisetty Satyanarayana has stepped aside from all party responsibilities with immediate effect.

Satyanarayana’s decision comes ahead of the final judicial resolution of a key environmental case pending before the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

Satyanarayana has been spearheading long-running public interest litigation (PLI) over pollution in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, including untreated sewage discharge, pharmaceutical effluents and industrial pollution. AP government and the Ministry of Environment are among the principal respondents in the case, which is currently in the trial phase.

In a formal communication addressed to Jana Sena president K. Pawan Kalyan, the Deputy Chief Minister of AP, Satyanarayana said his decision to keep away from JS party activities is aimed at preventing any perceived conflict of interest, especially in light of the Jana Sena’s role as a key alliance partner in the NDA government, and Kalyan’s current portfolio as Minister for Environment and Panchayat Raj.

He maintained that continuing in a senior party position while litigating against the State could compromise the perceived impartiality of the judicial process and potentially cause avoidable political embarrassment to the government and the ministry.

Satyanarayana described his move as a “principled recusal,” clarifying that it is not a departure from Jana Sena’s ideology or mission, but a temporary step taken in the larger interest of political ethics and environmental justice.

Reaffirming his commitment to Jana Sena’s ideals and constitutional values, he maintained that he will stay away from party roles until the PLI reaches its final resolution, after which he will resume his party responsibilities.
