VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Pradesh BJP president P.V.N. Madhav on Sunday strongly condemned the alleged “inhuman behaviour” of police personnel towards BJP leaders and activists during a protest in Kadapa over the name-change issue of a local centre.

Madhav expressed serious concern over reports that the Kadapa BJP district president was allegedly assaulted by a DSP-rank police officer during the protest. He demanded the immediate suspension of the officer concerned and said such conduct by the police was unacceptable in a democratic system.

The BJP leader alleged that police resorted to high-handed behaviour against party leaders and cadres who were staging what he described as a peaceful and democratic protest. He questioned whether expressing dissent through lawful means would now invite “police brutality”.

Madhav said the incident reflected an alarming trend and warned that the matter would be taken up with the state government and higher authorities. He demanded strict disciplinary action against the officer allegedly involved in the assault.

Stating that the BJP would not tolerate attacks on its workers and leaders, Madhav said democratic protests must be respected and protected rather than suppressed through force.
