Nellore: BJP leader Naveen Kumar Reddy has raised concerns about the poor maintenance of Tirupati’s iconic Garuda Varadhi flyover, claiming it has become a traffic hazard and eyesore due to official negligence and contractor’s failure to fulfill their responsibilities.

Launched in 2019 at a cost of Rs 694 crore, the flyover was envisioned as a modern marvel, akin to Hyderabad’s Necklace Road, aimed at facilitating pilgrim movement and beautifying the temple city. However, Reddy said that the structure now appears neglected and mismanaged.

He alleged that required ISO-certified safety audits have not been conducted since the flyover's completion, putting public safety at risk, especially during monsoon when poor drainage causes severe water-logging beneath the flyover.

Despite the contractor receiving Rs 25 crore for a five-year maintenance contract, Reddy noted that the junctions and dividers from Leela Mahal to Padmavathi Puram remain in diarray, he noted.

“This flyover has become a burden instead of a boon,” Reddy stressed, urging the TTD, Municipal Corporation, and Smart City officials to implement safety audits and contractual obligations immediately.

He also revealed his plans to write to CM Chandrababu Naidu, demanding urgent corrective action to prevent accidents on the flyover and to restore public trust.
