BCYP Demands Fresh Notification for Municipal Polls
He also questioned the continued reliance on physical nomination papers despite advances in digital technology.
VIJAYAWADA: Bharata Chaitanya Yuvajana Party (BCYP) president Bode Ramachandra Yadav has demanded fresh notifications for all municipal elections in Andhra Pradesh and online filing of nominations, alleging that the State Election Commission (SEC) had failed to prevent electoral irregularities favouring the ruling alliance.
In an open letter to State Election Commissioner Anil Chandra Punetha on Thursday, Yadav alleged that nomination papers were being torn up, police and revenue officials were being misused, and nominations were being rejected at several places across more than 100 municipalities and nagar panchayats.
He accused the SEC of failing to adequately address the alleged irregularities and said Supreme Court intervention had forced a temporary suspension of the election process. Restarting nominations at select places would not ensure free and fair elections, he argued.
Yadav demanded fresh notifications for all municipalities, municipal corporations and nagar panchayats instead of merely postponing the elections. He also questioned the continued reliance on physical nomination papers despite advances in digital technology.
The BCYP sought online uploading of B-forms and extension of the system to mandal, zilla parishad and panchayat elections. Yadav urged the SEC to exercise its constitutional powers impartially to prevent malpractice and ensure free and fair elections.
