Bapatla Police Arrest Pan-India Gang Involved In Cybercrimes

Bapatla district police have cracked a sensational cybercrime case involving fake websites resembling that of Andhra Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and cheating people across 18 states in the country.

VIJAYAWADA: Bapatla district police have cracked a sensational cybercrime case involving fake websites resembling that of Andhra Pradesh State Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC) and cheating people across 18 states in the country.

Bapatla district SP Tushar Dudi announced at a press conference that they have arrested Paramjeet, age 20, and Bittu of Sahasan village in Pahadi tehsil of Deeg district in Rajasthan after APTDC’s Bapatla Suryalanka Haritha Resorts manager G. Ashok filed a complaint stating that a fake website named “Harith Beach Resort Suryalanka” has been created closely resembling the official website of Haritha Resorts at Bapatla Suryalanka.
Tourists arriving at Suryalanka from distant places realised that they had made payments and booked rooms through a fake website only after arriving in Suryalanka.
The Bapatla SP said they formed specialised teams, which found that the cybercrime gang is operating from Rajasthan. They examined the suspects' bank account details using NCRP and SAMANVAYA portals and found that a total of 127 cybercrime complaints had been filed against the Rajasthan criminals across India.
Of the total complaints, 49 had been related to fake Haritha Resorts websites, 11 to fraudulent sites of TTD, Srisailam, and Triambakeshwar temples, three to Mera Mahadev Resort and the remaining related to various other forms of cybercrimes. The complaints are from several states, with the highest number reported in Telangana (55), followed by Maharashtra (14), Uttar Pradesh (12), Rajasthan (9), Karnataka (8), Delhi (5), Andhra Pradesh and Punjab (4 each), Gujarat and Odisha (3 each), Haryana and Jharkhand (2 each), and one complaint each from Bihar, Chandigarh, Chhattisgarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.
The cybercriminals had defrauded victims of approximately ₹46 lakh.
Under the SP’s supervision, police used advanced technology to zero in on the accused in Sahasa area of Deeg district in Rajasthan. Bapatla police arrested the two accused on July 23 at 7:30 p.m.
SP Tushar Dudi felicitated the officers and staff of Bapatla police IT / Cyber team and Bapatla Rural police station for their concerted efforts and commitment.
