VISAKHAPATNAM: With the season of king of fruits – mango – nearing its end, bakeries and restaurants throughout Visakhapatnam are hosting special mango-themed festivities over the weekend, giving customers the final opportunity to enjoy creative dishes and desserts.

Sirisha, the owner of a well-known bakery in Lawson Bay Colony, celebrated the end of mango season in an exciting way. "Through this weekend, I am organising a mango festival, experimenting with various dishes. My offerings are such that my customers will remember our bakery until the next season."

Her bakery's mango festival has an amazing selection of special dishes, including Purple Paradise, Mango Bango, Mango Pudding, Mango Misu, Mango Milk Cake, Mango Bento, Mango Pastries, Mango Temptation and Mango Bomboline.

The festive atmosphere involving mangoes has gone beyond bakeries. Hotels and restaurants have also taken up the mango theme, presenting elaborate menus that featured the fruit in several courses.

Manager at a private hotel K. Sanjay said, "We are hosting a mango festival with approximately 25–30 mango-inspired desserts, 4–5 starters and main dishes, apart from drinks incorporating the fruit."

The menu has inventive fusion dishes like mango roti pachadi, a mango chia seed dessert and mango biryani. The drink offerings include mango margarita, mango mimosa, and mango sangria.

Fruit vendors point out that mango prices this season have stayed stubbornly high. Raju, who runs a fruit shop in Chinna Waltair, explained, "The demand remained surged, with supply being limited due to the rainfall."

Currently, mango prices are ranging from ₹150–250 per kilogramme, based on the variety.
